Dolphins Wins First Conference Game Opener
The first Region 14 conference clash of the season between San Jacinto College–North and Alvin College delivered instant drama Wednesday night, as Alvin walked off with a 6–5 extra-inning victory in 10 innings.
Game Recap
San Jacinto–North struck first with two runs in the top of the opening inning, but Alvin responded immediately. Hudson Depriest ignited the rally, swiping two bases and scoring, while Ronnie Rouse delivered a key double. The big blow came from Justin Garcia Hernandez, who crushed a home run and finished the night with three RBIs to stake Alvin to a 3–2 lead after one.
San Jacinto–North chipped away with single runs in the third and fourth innings, highlighted by a solo home run off starter Justan Autry, who battled through six innings. Autry scattered seven hits, allowed four runs (three earned), and struck out eight to keep Alvin within striking distance.
The visitors extended their lead to 5–3 in the seventh, putting pressure on Alvin's bullpen. Enter Asa Sampson, who worked four steady innings in relief. Despite surrendering one run, Sampson limited further damage and gave his offense a chance to rally.
In the bottom of the eighth, Alvin capitalized. Jackson Castillo drove in a run to narrow the gap, and Garcia Hernandez delivered again with a clutch RBI knock to tie the game at 5–5. Aggressive baserunning by Dylan Marbury and Jayce Richardson, who also turned heads earlier despite grounding into a double play, helped spark the inning.
After a scoreless ninth forced extra innings, Alvin sealed the opener in the 10th. With momentum on their side, the Dolphins scratched across the winning run, completing the comeback and securing a 6–5 conference victory.
