ACC Softball Splits Conference Opener with Blinn on Wednesday
The Dolphins lost game one of the doubleheader by a score of 7-5, before winning game two, 8-5.
Blinn took an early 7-0 lead in game one, after scoring a run in the second, two in the third and four in the fourth inning, on five errors from the second base position. ACC got on the board in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI double from Izzy Doggett that brought in Yaya Silva. The next batter Alyssa Keene doubled, trading places with Doggett. A Savannah Salazar single drove in Keene, and then Sophie Brammer had a pinch hit RBI walk. Defensive replacement Alexia Arambula drove in the Dolphins final run of the game a couple batters later on an RBI single that scored Salazar.
Delaney Gray was the starting pitcher for the Dolphins, going three innings allowing 7 runs, but just one earned, still getting credited with the loss. Haley Vinton pitched the final four innings without allowing a run. Yaya Silva went 3-4 with a double.
The Dolphins scored first in game two, with the bases loaded and nobody out, ACC scored with a Yaya Silva steal of home. Three straight strikeouts by Blinn's Brynn Galamore mitigated further damage. A solo homer from Blinn's Bailey Boetjer tied the game in the top of the second, and a Madysen Taylor RBI ground out put Blinn up 2-1. Savannah Salazar tied the game with another steal of home in the bottom of the second to tie it at two a piece. A two run triple by Blinn's Annie Beckendorf and an RBI single by Boetjer put Blinn up 5-2 in the top of the third. The Dolphins trailed 5-2 until a six run outburst in the bottom of the sixth inning, that started with a bases loaded walk by BeAnka Galan, Silva scoring on a wild pitch, and then a two run single by Jadyn Granere. An RBI groundout by Salazar and an RBI single by Emili Garza provided further insurance for the Dolphins, making the score 8-5 in favor of ACC.
Sophie Brammer got the start and went two innings allowing 5 runs before Galan came in, tossing 5 innings of scoreless ball, earning the run. Silva went 3-4 with a walk and two runs. Galan went 1-2 at the plate with two walks and an RBI. Jadyn Granere went 2-3 with a walk and a run, driving in two.
ACC Softball is now 13-13 on the season and 1-1 in conference play. The Dolphins will take on conference foe Coastal Bend in Beeville on Saturday.
