Softball Splits Doubleheader vs Navarro at Home
Alvin Community College Softball split their doubleheader Wednesday against the visiting Navarro Bulldogs, dropping the first game 10-0, before winning the second game 11-7.
Game one saw Navarro jump out in front early, scoring two runs in the top of the first inning on a Leah Perales two run double, before scoring two more runs in the top of the second. Navarro scored three more runs in the top of the fifth and the top of the seventh. The Dolphins were never able to get on the board against the extremely stingy Baylee Sales, who pitched a complete game shutout, only allowing five baserunners and striking out four Dolphins. ACC's starting pitcher Hailey Vinton was credited with the loss. Izzy Doggett was the lone bright spot for the Dolphins offensively in the loss, going two for three, although her streak of 13 straight plate appearances in which she reached base safely that spanned across five different games, was snapped in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Game two of the doubleheader began with Navarro taking a 2-0 lead in the top of the first after an error allowed a run to score. ACC answered back with two runs of their own, in the bottom of the first with a two run single from Alyssa Keene. ACC would score four more runs in the bottom of the second, including a BeAnka Galan three run homer to put the Dolphins up 6-2. Navarro answered back in the top of the third with three more runs, bringing Navarro within a run. Four different Dolphins would notch an RBI in the bottom of the third inning, bringing the lead up to 10-5. Navarro threatened in the top of the seventh scoring two runs, and bringing the tying run to the plate, but fell just short. ACC's starting pitcher Sophie Brammer got the win, going 6 1/3 innings, allowing seven runs on six hits, while walking four and striking out two. Alexis Tamez came in with one out in the seventh inning, and closed the door on the Bulldogs comeback attempt. Leadoff hitter Mireya "Yaya" Silva went 2-3 with a walk, an RBI, and three runs scored. BeAnka Galan went 2-3 with a walk, four RBI's and two runs scored. ACC totaled 14 hits, five walks and four stolen bases.
ACC will take on Monroe University who is visiting from New York on Friday and will host Blinn in their conference opener on Wednesday.
